Cartoon and Fairy Tale Characters II: Frakk, the Terror of Cats
Following Süsü the Dragon in the Cartoon and Fairy Tale Characters series, in 2020 Magyar Posta is releasing a numbered special souvenir sheet featuring the characters of the animated television series Frakk, the Terror of Cats. Fifty thousand copies of the souvenir sheet designed by the graphic artist István Weisenburger were produced by ANY Security Printing Company. The new issue is available from Filaposta, philately specialist services, designated post offices and www.posta.hu.
This Hungarian paper cut-out animated television series, of which 52 episodes in 4 seasons were made, was produced at the Pannónia Film Studios between 1971 and 1985. It was written by Ágnes Bálint; the figures were designed by György Várnai; the series was directed by András Cseh and Pál Nagy, and the music composed by Zsolt Pethő. Among those who provided the voices were actors of high repute such as Gyula Szabó, Éva Schubert, Hédi Váradi, János Rajz and Erzsi Pártos. At the centre of the adventures is Frakk, an always hungry, playful Hungarian vizsla, who thinks his main job is to teach the somewhat spoilt and cheeky cats Lukrécia and Szerénke how to behave. His owner, Uncle Károly, fully supports him in this, while his wife, Auntie Irma, tends to favour the cats.
The main characters are depicted on the three stamps of the special souvenir sheet: on the middle stamp is the leading character, Frakk, with his owners, Auntie Irma and Uncle Károly, on the stamp to his left, and the cats, Szerénke and Lukrécia, on the one to his right.
An action-packed scene from the animated film is shown on the first day cover and the postmark features a picture frame which played an important part in one of the episodes. The title of the animated film series appears in the frame.
