For the ninth time, Magyar Posta is issuing a special miniature sheet using motifs from the Chinese horoscope. The coming period from 1 February 2022 until 21 January 2023 is the Year of the Tiger associated with the element water. Twenty thousand copies of the new issue designed by the graphic artist Berta Ágnes Szajkó were produced by ANY Security Printing Company. The new issue will be available at first day post offices and Filaposta in Hungary from 25 January 2022, but may also be ordered from Magyar Posta’s online store.

Chinese astrology is a tradition and discipline that is deeply rooted in Chinese culture and dates back thousands of years. It explains the behaviour of the basic elements of the world, and the order and cycles of nature. The system divides time into cycles of 60 years, so that each year in this cycle is formed by a combination of a particular Heavenly Stem and a Terrestrial Branch.
The Tiger is excited by new challenges, and loves special places and unexpected events. Tigers enjoy life, and their enthusiasm, sense of purpose and positive attitude make them likeable. The Tiger likes unpredictable situations and is not cautious. Tigers are very generous and like to involve their friends in their plans.
According to the Chinese horoscope, 2022 will be a year of pre-ordained events, spontaneity and novelty. It will be a period that derives its strength and growth from dynamism and enthusiasm despite difficulties. 2022 will be a year of unforeseen changes and surprising developments. The Year of the Tiger will be followed by the Year of the Rabbit in 2023.
Two tigers forming a circle adorn the stamps of the miniature sheet. The special first day cover and the postmark for the miniature sheet contain other tiger motifs.
